Tree Services in Apex: good to know
Before a tree comes down in Apex, two questions matter: are you free to remove it, and where does the debris go?
Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Apex?
Apex does not require a permit to remove a tree on an existing single-family lot when the removal is not part of a development project. The exceptions are trees inside a Resource Conservation Area or a stream buffer, which are protected. Your HOA may have its own approval step, and it is worth a call to the Town's Planning Department before removing anything near a stream. Does Apex pick up leaves at the curb?
The Town of Apex collects yard waste at the curb every other week by zone (Zone A west of I-540, Zone B east of it), with a peak leaf season that runs from mid-October into early February. Leaves go loose at the curb, unbagged and kept separate from sticks and limbs. Yard waste produced by a contractor or landscaper is not collected. The Town requires the contractor to dispose of it, which is why our crews haul what they generate. Source: Town of Apex: Yard Waste Collection.
NC State Extension recommends pruning established deciduous trees in late winter while they are dormant, and avoiding autumn, when decay fungi are releasing spores. Source: NC State Extension: General Pruning Techniques.

Why it matters
Safety
Dead limbs and leaning trees come down before a storm brings them down on your roof.
Tree health
Correct pruning cuts keep trees growing strong instead of stressed and split.
Clean finish
Every job ends with debris hauled and the area cleaned, not a pile left at the curb.
Tree Services questions

When should trees be trimmed?
